DJI Agriculture launches the Mavic 3 Multispectral to drive the development of global precision agriculture

With the Mavic 3 Multispectral, DJI is offering advanced productivity tools to individuals and organisations engaged in precision agriculture worldwide. This version of the DJI Mavic 3 features a multispectral imaging system that quickly captures crop growth information to achieve more effective crop growth. It is a must-have solution for all kinds of application scenarios in precision agriculture and environmental monitoring.

“The launch of DJI Mavic 3 Multispectral will help farmers around the world improve the quality and efficiency of their production, reduce costs, and increase income. All this while promoting the development of modern agriculture.”

Ronnie Liu, North America regional representative at DJI Agriculture

DJI Agriculture is happy to offer its users a variety of options. As such, the Mavic 3 Multispectral is exceptionally portable. Based on the design of DJI’s flagship product, it weighs just 951 grams. So, you build it up easily and it fits in even an ordinary bag.

RGB and multispectral imaging system

Mavic 3 Multispectral – also known as Mavic 3M – uses a two-in-one camera system that lets you view and collect a wide range of information, which you then convert into results in the field.

The RGB camera is equipped with a 4/3-inch CMOS, a 20MP image sensor and a mechanical shutter with a maximum speed of 1/2000. This allows you to film continuously at a high speed at the fastest interval of 0.7 seconds and collect image data quickly. So, you increase the efficiency of operations in the field.

In addition to the RGB camera, a multispectral camera with four lenses provides more accurate directional information. This allows you to detect details that the human eye cannot detect and get a better understanding of crop conditions. Each of the four multispectral cameras can capture 5 million pixels and scans at the following wavelengths:

  • Green (G): 560 nm ± 16 nm
  • Red (R): 650 nm ± 20 nm
  • Red edge (RE): 730 nm ± 20 nm
  • Near infrared (NIR): 860 nm ± 26 nm

Thanks to the combination of these two cameras, the Mavic 3M realises applications such as high-precision aerial surveys, crop growth monitoring and natural resource surveys.

RTK positioning at centimetre level

The Mavic 3M includes an RTK module for centimetre-level positioning. The drone, camera and RTK module are synchronised at the microsecond level to accurately obtain position data from the image centre of each camera. This allows the Mavic M3 to take highly precise aerial shots without using control points on the ground. And with up to 43 minutes of battery life, the Mavic 3M can map an area of 2 square kilometres in a single flight.

Designed for safer usek

This new drone is equipped with O3 video transmission that integrates two channels of transmit signals and four channels of receive signals. Moreover, it supports an ultra-long transmission distance of 15 kilometres. For added safety, Mavic 3M is equipped with omnidirectional obstacle detection to detect obstacles in all directions and avoid them accurately.

Unlimited possibilities

To help professional users and partners in different areas, Mavic 3M can be integrated into different ecosystems. Thus, the device offers unlimited possibilities for smart farming. Through the built-in DJI Cloud API, based on the MQTT protocol in Pilot 2, users can connect Mavic 3M directly to a third-party cloud platform to collect information, live video, photo data and other information. All without having to develop a separate app to do so. Mavic 3M also supports Mobile SDK 5 (MSDK5) so users can easily develop exclusive control apps for intelligent monitoring, for example.

A new tool for precision farming

The Mavic 3 Multispectral is useful in numerous work scenarios.

  • It can perform ground-based aerial surveys in mountain forests and orchards.
  • With the DJI SmartFarm platform, generate NDVI vegetation indices to provide data for more efficient and localised crop treatments.
  • Automatic field recognition can detect crop abnormalities as well as perform intelligent analysis. It allows one person to manage 70 hectares of land.
